While Netflix is one of the most popular streaming services, the platform brings many new updates to keep its users subscribed. Streaming services launch new tiers because of the costs of the content. Netflix is also one of the services that will launch a new affordable tier. There have been many rumors about the ad-supported tier until now. Netflix announced that it is officially launching the Basic with Ads subscription plan.
Basic with Ads will be available in 12 countries next month
After a long-awaited time, Netflix finally launches the new lower-priced ad-supported plan “Basic with Ads” in November. The company announced that the new tier will be available in 12 countries for now, but it will probably expand to other countries. While some features stay the same, there will also be some differences. Here are the details about Basic with Ads.
Netflix explains the new tier, “In short, Basic with Ads is everything people love about Netflix, at a lower price, with a few ads in-between.” According to the announcements, ads will be 15 or 30 seconds in length, and they will play before and during shows and movies at launch. The tier will have video quality up to 720p/HD, and an average of 4 to 5 minutes of ads per hour. Users will not have the ability to download titles, and they won’t have access to a limited number of movies and TV shows due to licensing restrictions.
The Basic with Ads tier will be available in Australia, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Spain, the UK, and the US. Netflix is going to launch the new tier on November 3 at 9 am PT in the US and UK, and on November 1 in Canada.
If you want the lower-priced ad-supported tier “Basic with Ads,” you need to pay $6.99 a month in the US. According to Netflix’s announcement, “Starting in November, signing up will be easy, visit the website, and register with your email, date of birth, and gender to get started.”
